Purananooru - 191 to 200 (English Translation)

191. A Song Written By Pisir Aandhaiyaar

If you ask me the reason for my hair not getting grey at this old age, I will tell. My wife and children are wise. My servants work according to my wish. The ruler of our country does not think harm to others. He saves the people with kindness. Apart from all these there are so many scholars with noble qualities in our village.

192. A Song Written By Kaniyan Poongkundran

All are our villages. All are our relatives. The evil and good do not come to us by others. Suffering and getting rid of the sorrow etc are like this. Death is not new to this world.. We do not fee joy , thinking that life is a pleasure. We do not think it sorrowful because of hatred. We know from scholars that the life goes according to the fate like the boat which goes along the water when the flood comes from the mountain due to the rain. So we do not wonder on seeing nobles and we do not blame the means.

193. A Song Written By Oreruzhavar

In the barren land which is like the leather spread up side down, the deer which is driven by a hunter runs here and there to escape. It may escape too. But I who live in the family cannot escape like that. Even if I try to escape, my relatives will be hurdles to me.

194. A Song Written By Pakkudukkai Nankaniyaar

In one house there sounds the drum of death. In another house there sounds the sweet mangala muzhavu. Those who join , feel happy by wearing garlands. Those who are away from their partners feel sad. The reason for this two different conditions is the mercilessness of the creator. This cruel world is a blend of pleasure and sorrow. Those who know this truth will try to understand which is the real pleasure.

195. A song Written By Nariverooththalaiyaar

Oh scholars having many qualities ! Oh scholars having many qualities ! You have gray hair like the spines of the fish. You have shrink cheek due to aging. You will lament when Yamaa who has sharp mazhu ties up your life and takes it. So if you cannot do good to others, avoid doing evil to others. It is the quality liked by all and it will be the righteous path which will lead us to heaven.

196. A Song About Paandiyan Ilavandhigaipalli Thunjchiya Nanmaaran

The symbols for good friendship are giving things that can be given and saying “ No “ if it is not possible. Saying that I will give when it is not possible and refusing to give when there are t -hings to give wil make them feel sad those who come to get. These are the closing stones of fame. You have done this today. I don't see this before. It is a new experience. It does not a matter. Let you and your children live without diseases. I won't get angry with you like the hot sun. I will not die due to hunger. I am leaving to my house where there is poverty. I am going to my house thinking my wife who has blush and chastity as her ornaments. You long live well. -Aavoor Moolangkizhaar

197. A Song About Sozhan Kuraappalli Thunjchiya Perunth Thirumaavalavan

We won't respect and praise the kings for their wealth who have four kinds of armies. We respect only those who respect us even though they are the kings of small lands. We eat the greens with varahu rice. Though we are in sorrow, we won't accept the wealth of those who do not have kindness and mercy. We will consider the poverty of the wise as great thing. -Konattu Erichchaloor Maadalan Madhurai Kumaranaar

198. A Song About Paandiyan Ilavandhigaippalli thunjchiya Nanmaaran

Oh king having chest wearing garlands ! Let your children who have worn kinkini live long. We also praise you and think you even in our dreams. We see your wealth which is like the wealth of Thirumaal with pleasure. We leave you now. Let your fame live long. Your children also have the quality of seizing the wealth of the enemies. Let their life increase more than the sea water, seashore sand and rain drops. You with your children and with the children of your children long live. I will be a lark longing for the rain drops and will be thinking about you ever. Your good deed is not be forget. -Vadama Vannakkan Perisaaththanaar

199. A Song Written By Perum Padhumanaar

The sounding birds will go to the same fruit tree not thinking that we ate the fruits of this banyan tree much where the god lived yesterday. They won't go in search of another tree. The beggars who come for gifts are also like these birds. It is the duty of the rich to give the wealth to the poor. Poverty is the wealth of the poor. Removing the poverty of the poor is the wealth of the rich.

The male monkey will eat the jack fruit with its female monkey. The peaks of the mountains are up to the sky. There are bamboo forests. Oh king ! The tip of your vel will look like fire due to the blood stained flesh. Oh Vichchikko having beautiful ornaments ! The girls with me are the daughters of Paari who gave his chariot to the mullai creeper even it did not ask for it. I am an Andhanan who come for gift. You have the fame of winning your enemies. Kindly accept this gift .( The daughters of Paari ). You have the strength to conquer your enemies. You have a fertile land. -Kapilar

182. A Song Written By Kadalul Maindha Ilamperu Vazhudhi

Oh ! This world is without perishing for a long time. What is the reason for this ? The reason for its non perishing is- there are people who do not eat amudham which gives immortality without sharing it with others; those who do not hate others and do not show anger to others; those who do not sleep for a long time. They afraid to do the deeds which are afraid by the nobles. They give their lives if fame comes. If on doing a deed which brings blame , they do not do it even if they get the world as a reward for that. They have no tiredness. They have such high qualities. They do not strain for their lives, but they strain hard for others' lives. Because of these people , this world is still in movement.

183. A Song Written By Paandiyan Aariyappadai Kadandha Nedunjchezhiyan

Help the teacher when he needs. Give much wealth to him. Don't hate being in a lower state. Doing all these , learning is good. Among the children who are born in the same family, due to the greatness of education, even the mother will like that son who has education and will hate the uneducated son. Among the children of the same family, the king will not call the eldest but will rule with the guidance of the educated , though he is younger. Among the four different castes, if the person belongs to the lowest caste is educated, the person belongs to higher caste has to obey to him and learn from him.

184. A Song About Paandiyan Arivudaiyanambi

If we harvest the paddy, cook it and give it as balls to an elephant, the paddy which is grown in a small land will become food for it many days. But if we let the elephant to craze in the field, even the paddy in a large field will not be enough for it. The quantity of paddy eaten by the elephant will be smaller than the quantity of paddy destroyed by its legs. If the king collects the tax in the right way, the people will give a large amount as tax and the country also will prosper. When the foolish king along with his companions who do not know the status of the people tries to get tax from the people without kindness, he cannot get much tax. His country will be destroyed like the field where the elephant is let to craze. -Pisir Aandhaiyaar

186. A Song Written By Mosi Keeranaar

To the people of the world eating food (paddy ) is not the life and drinking water is not the life. To this broad world the king alone is the life. So it is the duty of the king to know that he is the life of this world and to protect it.

187. A Song Written By Awvaiyaar

Whether it is a country, whether it is a forest, whether it is a valley, whether it is a plateau the land will be good and fertile if the people who live there are good. Oh good land ! You long live.

188. A Song Written By Paandiyan Arivudaiyanambi

Though we have much wealth, though we have many relatives to whom with we share our food, there is no use in our life if we do not have children. The children will walk with short steps. They stretch their small hands. They put their hands in our eating vessels, touch the food, take some food , wither away the ghee mixed rice on their body and make us forget ourselves by their activities.

189. A Song Written By Madhurai Kanakkaayanaar Mahanaar Nakkeeranaar

To the king who rules the whole world and to the uneducated who awaits for the animal not sleeping in the day and night, the quantity of food is a measureful and the dresses are two. All the other needs are the same. So giving to others is the use of the wealth. If we think that we will consume all, we will loose many good things.

190. A Song Written By Sozhan Nalluruththiran

Let the friendship with those who are like the rats which steel the paddy which is grown by the efforts of the farmer and those who do not give their wealth to others be ruined. Let the friendship with those who have such a strength of a tiger which does not eat the hog as it fell on the left hand side and kills the male elephant and makes it fall on its right hand side and eats in the next day be grown. Let the days with the nobles be so many.

You are the successor who engraved the symbol of the tiger in the fort. Due to the good deeds done by you, your father has gone to heaven. 176. A Song About Nalliyangkodan

The ladies who are playing , will see the eggs of the tortoise and sweet smelling aambal roots when they scratch the soil which was dug by the hogs. The water will be flowing with sound from the shutters. You have Nalliyangkodan who is the lord of Maa Ilangai and who is sung by the Paanaas as your companion. Oh my fate ! There is no worry for you. Not knowing that sweet water which is like the water of Parambu, is available in Nalliyangkodan's place, many have wandered unnecessarily. In the Kudanaadu where the warriors stand on the hill like sand heap, pluck the naaval fruits and eat them. Malli Kizhaan will give the pork with the white balls of rice to all those who come. As the foot of the aththi tree has many wounds, he also has many wounds. ( The aththi's milk is used as a medicine for the wounds. So the people cut the foot of the aththi tree and take the milk.) Let us sing about him. Oh Virali ! Get ready with various musical instruments. Saying this I sang the twenty one kinds of songs and called him , “ Oh king ! “ H knew that it was told about him. 154. A Song About Kongkaanakkizhaar

It is the nature of the people to ask is there any drinking water to quench the thirst even when they are near the waving sea as it has only salty water. Poets will go to the patrons instead of going to the rich kings. I come not considering the quantity, but considering your good quality. You never run back while fighting with your enemies. It is hard to ask gifts. Even if you give gifts or not , it is easy and natural to sing about your Kongkaananaadu which has many , cold water falls. -Mosi Keeranaar

My wife is not capable of feeding the children who lay beside her. She cooks the tender leaves of the greens without adding salt. She lives eating these green leaves as food. Oh Kumanna ! You have a fertile land where ivanam grows. You gave gifts like the rain so that we could quench our hunger. You should know that both the giver and receiver should be happy. Though the big elephant was the gift, I won't accept it if it was given without pleasure. Though it was small like a kundri I would accept it happily. So you give the gift with pleasure. I will sing for your long life. -Perunjchiththiranaar

The rays of the sun bring the sea water and pour it so that the dried grass and the forest get life. Like that you have given us food so that the hungry stomach is filled. The poets who know your fame told me if you go to him , he will give you a lot. So I have come here. There is no food in our house. My children open the food vessels which are empty as there is no milk in their mother's breasts. When they weep my wife frightens them saying that the tiger is coming. I will bless your fame and name be stable as long as the earth is here. -Perunjchiththiranaar

I have come through the forest way where there are robbers and deers. Let my poverty perish today itself. I want to leave from you on an elephant so that my wife wonders. Driven by my poverty I came before you and sang about your giving quality. Listen to it. You are capable of knowing my ability. You help me according to your highness. To minimize the number of people who are against the aadhi veda which has four parts and six kinds , you have done twenty one velvies to avoid the lies which resemble truth. The leather of the deer is on your shoulder for doing the velvies. Your wives who have chastity do their duties according to your orders. We wish to see this scene after you have done so many velvies by pouring the ghee of the seven kinds of cows as water. The rainy clouds thunder on the Kudahu hill which is in the west. Tell me the reason. -Konattu Erichchaloor Madalan Madhurai Kumaranaar

The hogs will eat the kaandhal roots with their gathering. In the pits dig by the hogs we sow thinai. When the thinai is harvested , it is cooked with the cow's milk, burning sandal woods as fire wood. It is served on the banana leaves and ate with many. Oh lord of the Kudhirai hill !
